Shelah from Om Brew Yoga, who some of you might recognize from her yoga classes at a few of our local breweries came back for another guest review! Here's what she had to say about Miami Brewing's Big Rod Ale...

The craft beer world is such an interesting industry and the South Florida market is quite eclectic. Different tastes at every corner. One thing that always stands out to me when we mention the Miami/South Florida area is the beach. There is nothing better than the warm sun, the salty air and the smell of coconut and sunscreen in my opinion. I AM a beach girl at heart. That is why I have loved seeing the growth of Miami Brewing and it's Big Rod Ale. It just feels like it belongs right here in South Florida.

My first impression of this beer is that it screams "beach" to me. The nose is full of warm coconut aromas that carry right through to the taste. It’s clear golden color reminds me of sun kissed cheeks and it pours with a bright white, hearty head.

Big Rod is flavor packed but if you don’t like coconut, you probably shouldn’t try this one. Gentle coconut from start to finish. That is what stands out the most for me. The coconut flavors carry all the way through. Not big malty flavors. Not over the top hopped. Just creamy coconut, start to finish.

Despite the growing pains and inconsistency that Miami Brewing encountered during the first part of their production, Big Rod has turned out to be a very decent beer that is pretty reflective of the atmosphere of South Florida, in my opinion. They distribute this one in cans only right now so it is easy to take with you when you hit the water too.
