We haven't had a guest post in awhile so when @TheSouthlandTap offered to write one on the beer he was enjoying at the time, how could I pass it up. While Catawba Brewing Co.is in NC and isn't distributed in Florida (yet), who knows when it might (if ever) get here. They can their beers so all you need to do is take advantage of a buddy who's traveling and get them to mule some back for you. I took a look at their website and it looks like they are available in NC, SC and now AL. All they have left is getting into GA and then they'll be ready to seal off the corner of the south with us! I have no contacts there or any insight so this is all pure specualtion but in today's beer environment, anythings possible.
Here's the post.....
Catawba Brewing's Tangerine Wheat sounds good. Sounds like it will taste good. Sounds like summer. Sounds like Florida. Yes to all. But I'm in the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, NC. Stop and think about it for a second and you realize, any thing beer in Asheville is possible. Catawba made it possible with the help of some local ladies. Brewer Sam Bryant lead some brewery industry women in brain storming and creating this smooth wheat ale.
So lets get to the beer. Lite orange in color and smooth mouth feel with that typical tanginess that wheat beers have. The tangerine is not overwhelming. Its actually underwhelming and that's a good thing. I don't want to drink a tangerine but I want to get that hint. That's what this Catawba creation does. 1 sip, 2 sip, then you get it. Perfect for a summer night. Just after a pint, this has to be floating around the 5-5.5% ABV. By no means will this overtake their White Zombie, Mother Trucker or the beyond funky Peanut Butter and Jelly, but the Tangerine Wheat was a great call at a good time and I encourage beer drinkers of any level to sip on one, or two or three. Cheers.
