When I found out that Shelah from Om Brew Yoga is visiting some of our local breweries and teaching yoga classes, I asked her if she'd like to do a guest review. Hopefully this is just the first of many! Here's what she had to say...

When Mike first approached me to write up a review, I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated. In the craft beer world, I am a baby. A newbie. I have only been a convert for a little over a year and a half and getting me convinced that beer was better than wine (which was my love at the time) was quite a task for my hubby. Happily, I realized that good craft beer would not be the death of me and I embraced this new found passion.

For my first appearance here, I chose to showcase a beer that goes hand in hand with my other passion – yoga. Cue the harps and shine the spotlights on Dogfish Head’s Namaste.

This is a fairly mild wit beer with hints of citrus, coriander and lemon. It has been in the DFH armory for quite a few years and I think it tends to get overlooked by big beer lovers. Even though it is a lighter style, I have found that it has enough of a flavor palate to not get lost.

The nose is where the coriander really comes out in my opinion and its one of the things I love about this beer. You don’t get hit with overpowering citrus or hop aromas that seem to be the trend lately. The flavor is just as smooth and gentle as the aroma. Nothing over the top but enough complexity to keep your taste buds interested. This beer is surprisingly clear for a wit and a bright golden yellow with a white head. It finishes just as tastefully as it starts. A very well balanced beer.

I am a plant based gal so it’s sometimes a bit of a challenge to pair beer and food for me. I love to put lighter beers like this with a grilled veggie salad or a plate of pasta with some smoky roasted tomatoes but it’s also a great one as a stand-alone for enjoying on a hot South Florida day. With a 4.8% ABV, it is easy to enjoy it without turning into an idiot as well.

No matter if it’s paired or not, Namaste is a great beer. DFH even touts that it comes with good karma. We can all use more of that.
~Namaste.
